Summer in North America 2018 Part 19 - Chihuly Garden and Glass

Oh the 4th of July, after we visited the Pike Place Market and Olympic Sculpture Park, we drove over to Seattle Center area. Seattle Center is a large park that hosts several attractions in it such as the Space Needle, Seattle Children's Museum, Museum of Pop Culture, Memorial Stadium, and Chihuly Garden and Glass.

It was very difficult to find parking to visit this park. We had to go around and round the area several times before we got really lucky to have found a free parking spot right around the perimeter of the Center. We walked around the park first, stopping here and there to take pictures. There are many sculptures spread around the area.

My main purpose of visiting the Seattle Center was actually to visit Chihuly Garden and Glass. It was something I've never heard of before but it had really good reviews on Google as well as on Tripadvisor. We reached the venue and bought tickets at a vending machine located right outside the entrance door. They had timed tickets (I meant that you can only enter at certain times), so we bought ours for the latest entry and we went to the foodcourt for a late lunch.

For our lunch, we opted for MOD Pizza, short for Made On Demand Pizza. We were just hungry, and didn't expect much. We went to line up, and ordered our pizza. They had some recommended combinations that you can order, but in general it was a bar of toppings that you can add on your pizza and they will bake it for you. They were very generous with the toppings too.

Miss Kiki and I ordered one pizza, and DH ordered another. We were getting really tired by then and hungry too...

Finally our pizzas came and they were super delicious! I would definitely go there again if I could, and I would recommend this place!

We had a little bit of time after our pizza, so I took Miss Kiki with me and the Olympus and she gracefully obliged when I asked her to pose for me here and there...

And finally, it's time to enter the museum! I readied myself to be disappointed because... well how exciting could glasses be... really?

We entered the room and the darkness took me by surprise... the first display was in the dark with very low lights... Those look cool, I thought.

The next room was lit with warm yellow lights, one side of the wall was covered with beautiful woven fabric that had inspired the artist. In the middle of the room they had several tables with glasses displayed.

From there, we moved the next room, and another, and more. Each room had their own theme, and mostly displayed in the dark. In some of the rooms, they had staff photographers stood by. Visitors can have their pictures taken for free. When you get your pictures taken, you will be given a souvenir card with a barcode, and later on you will find machines where you can scan the barcode, view the photo, and email it to your email or others.

The end of the indoor displays brought us to this large sunroom with this breathtaking glass pieces strung together like a dragon across the ceiling. Pictures can not do justice to this piece.

From there, the path lead us through the outdoor garden, also with glass pieces scattered around in harmony with the plants and flowers surrounding them.

Can you see the Space Needle?

After we finished with the outdoor garden, we traced back inside and took more pictures. This time the rooms were a lot emptier because all the crowd that entered with us had gone outside to the garden. I love this room where the colourful glasses were arranged above a glass ceiling, and the light from above the glasses casted coloured lights into the room. Miss Kiki took my pictures in this room. You can see them below, the angle is lower than normal :D

We went around the museum a little more and went out before sunset. I thought that it was very nice and was worth a visit!

Even though we were tired from almost a full day of activities, we couldn't pass on the fact that we were in USA for the 4th of July!  We went to Gas Works Park to view the fireworks display. As previously anticipated, parking situation was nearly impossible. We parked a few km away from the park and walked there. Miss Kiki walked all the way there and back like a trooper.

Originally, we were supposed to meet someone we knew from Jakarta that happened to be in Seattle at that time. Unfortunately, because there were so many people gathered in one spot at the same time, the cellular network got jammed and we weren't able to connect at all.

I had expected the fireworks to be super amazing, it was in America afterall... but I was disappointed. I think that even the ones in Winnipeg were just as good if not better. Oh well, maybe it would've been a different story in a larger city...

We stayed a little bit behind after the fireworks so we were able to take some pictures of Seattle skyline.

That was our 4th of July 2018!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm...

Spring in Egypt Part 9 - Luxor Temple

At the time when we arrived at Luxor temple it was already after dusk and it became a little difficult to take photos. I compensated by setting my camera ISO to 4000 to make tripod-less picture-taking possible even though the grains became more visible. Just like the previous nights, the moon still looked round to me. I wasn't sure which one of those moons was the actual full moon. We walked around the temple first with Michael for explanations about the temple. In the distance we were able to hear the adzan calling the people for prayer. Situated in the east bank, the construction of the temple was started by Amenhotep III, continued and finished by the famous King Tut and Horemheb, and then added on to by Rameses II and finally by Alexander the Great. Unlike the other temples we had previously visited, this temple is not dedicated to a single cult/god. Instead, it is used as a place to rejuvenate kingship. May of the kings were said to have been coronated at this temple. ...

Japan Winter Holiday 2017 Part 7 - Otaru Sakaimachi

On our second day in Otaru after we had breakfast and ice cream , we continued walking to Sakaimachi. This shopping street is one of the busiest in the city and is where a lot of Otaru attraction is located. In front of one of the stores there, we saw this cute dog wearing a Minion outfit. Of course Miss Kiki jumped and squealed and asked if she could pet it. We asked permission from the owner to take a picture with it. Along the street they have rock statues in the shape of famous characters like Anpanman and Mickey Mouse. With Anpanman It was a very nice day, we were able to walk around and had fun without feeling cold even though there were a lot of ice and snow. Check out the platforms they set up on the hill. We think that it's to prevent snow slides... Most of the buildings there were old style,,,  Many shops sell fresh seafood and they would cook it for you by order. As we walked past a souvenir shop, we saw a poster for these snowball make...
