Summer in North America 2018 Part 17 - Trip to Seattle

The day before USA's Independence Day, we drove south from BC to Seattle in Washington State, with a stop at Seattle Premium Outlet in Tulalip. We left in the morning after breakfast and arrived at the border before noon. It was the end of Canada Day long weekend, so I expected that the border to be less crowded. Nevertheless, there was still a lineup. We waited for a while and I finally let DH and Miss Kiki out of the car to stretch and run around between the two sides. On the Canadian side, they planted flowers in the shape of the Canadian flag. The American side has the Peace Arc with both Canadian and American flags raised on it.

In total, I think we spent just over half an hour at the border. It would've been a lot longer had I not gone to Point Roberts a few days prior! It was sunny with some clouds in Canada and very cloudy in the US that day... you can really see the difference in the pictures.

The Peace Arch

Our first stop was the Seattle Premium Outlets in Tulalip, situated right by the Tulalip Casino. If you like buffet restaurants, the casino restaurant would be a good option. Neither of us can eat a lot so we went to eat at the outlet food court instead. Miss Kiki and I shared a sub from Subway and DH bought himself tacos. We spent about 4 hours at the outlet but sadly didn't really find any great deals. We had some purchases but nothing to brag about other than a few Le Creuset pieces that were on sale at a very good price. Sorry, forgot to take pictures at the outlet :D

We then moved on to our hotel in Seattle, the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. The inn is quite small, but is located in a nice area. We searched Google for early dinner options and decided on Wibbley's Burger located just a little over half a mile away from our hotel. It had good reviews on Google and it sure didn't disappoint! We shared 2 different burgers (in anticipation that they were American sized) and fries. Both burgers were very good that even though they were big we felt like we could eat more of them!

After our early dinner we decided on a visit to Bellevue Square, specifically to go to Lolli & Pops. A premium candy store with a nice variety of gummies and other candies. DH wanted to buy some for Oma because he practically ate a whole jar of her gummies from there! Lol...

The mall became boring very quickly, so we walked over to Bellevue Downtown Park. It was nice and cool with just enough lights for pictures. We walked on the lush green grass, Miss Kiki ran around for a bit and had fun with the camera.

By sunset, we went back to the car and drove back to Bellevue area. We topped up our gas tank as it was a lot cheaper in the States, and a Safeway in Bellevue has a gas station that was cheaper than others in the area. We made a stop at Safeway because I was getting a bit peckish. It was our first visit to Safeway this trip. Now that I think of it..., I haven't seen a lot of Safeways in Canada this time. Safeway has a pretty good selection of ready-made food, even late at night. We bought their roasted chicken, some soup, cherries, and drinks. As usual, they offered discounts for members and I couldn't remember what my old phone number was to retrieve my membership. Fortunately, DH had been nagging me to be diligent about keeping records, and it turned out that I had my membership number in my phone's Card Star app and we got the discounts!!

So that was our first day in Seattle, please stay tuned for the next post!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm...

Japan Winter Holiday 2017 Part 7 - Otaru Sakaimachi

On our second day in Otaru after we had breakfast and ice cream , we continued walking to Sakaimachi. This shopping street is one of the busiest in the city and is where a lot of Otaru attraction is located. In front of one of the stores there, we saw this cute dog wearing a Minion outfit. Of course Miss Kiki jumped and squealed and asked if she could pet it. We asked permission from the owner to take a picture with it. Along the street they have rock statues in the shape of famous characters like Anpanman and Mickey Mouse. With Anpanman It was a very nice day, we were able to walk around and had fun without feeling cold even though there were a lot of ice and snow. Check out the platforms they set up on the hill. We think that it's to prevent snow slides... Most of the buildings there were old style,,,  Many shops sell fresh seafood and they would cook it for you by order. As we walked past a souvenir shop, we saw a poster for these snowball make...

Spring in Egypt Part 9 - Luxor Temple

At the time when we arrived at Luxor temple it was already after dusk and it became a little difficult to take photos. I compensated by setting my camera ISO to 4000 to make tripod-less picture-taking possible even though the grains became more visible. Just like the previous nights, the moon still looked round to me. I wasn't sure which one of those moons was the actual full moon. We walked around the temple first with Michael for explanations about the temple. In the distance we were able to hear the adzan calling the people for prayer. Situated in the east bank, the construction of the temple was started by Amenhotep III, continued and finished by the famous King Tut and Horemheb, and then added on to by Rameses II and finally by Alexander the Great. Unlike the other temples we had previously visited, this temple is not dedicated to a single cult/god. Instead, it is used as a place to rejuvenate kingship. May of the kings were said to have been coronated at this temple. ...
