The Derawan Islands have several islands in it... and they are named as a family. For example, the Sangalaki Island is the "laki" or man of the family. The Maratua Island is the "mertua" or parent-in-law, Kakaban Isand is the "Kakak" or older sibling, and there is also Samama Island that is the "mama" or mom. I forgot to ask what Derawan meant though, but if I were to take a wild guess it would be "perawan" or (female) virgin. Hahaha...
After spending about 45 minutes at the Sangalaki Island, we took the boat a little bit away from the island and stopped for a bit of snorkelling. For me, the current seemed a bit too strong so I did not want to go in. Miss Kiki however, insisted that she wanted to dip in so DH took her out for a swim. She was very excited!
