Japan Spring 2024 - Part 9 Tokyo Ueno Park

Sakura Illumination at Ueno Park

We arrived in Tokyo from Nagoya in the evening. This trip, we stayed in a serviced apartment in Tsukiji area. It was nice because itā€™s affordable and close to the metro station, but unfortunately the access to the metro station doesnā€™t allow for stroller. At least we didnā€™t find any access while we were there. Weā€™ve had our ekiben dinner on the shinkansen ride, so when we arrived in the serviced apartment we didnā€™t do anything else.

The following morning, DH and I got up early and we explored Tsukiji Market. Somehow we donā€™t find it too interesting anymore, and things have become a lot more expensive than it used to be. We ended up having coffee (it was bad) and DH went for a sushi breakfast while I went back to the apartment instead.

When Oma and Opa were ready to go, we went out to look for coffee. We quicky stop at a park near the apartment to take a picture by a sakura tree there. The famous coffee shops near the hotels all had really long lineups. Rather silly, Iā€™d say, as the lineup is usually caused by a few posts on Instagram and it doesnā€™t really guarantee the taste. Anyway we had to look around a bit further for a shop with a spot.

When we found a place, I saw that there was one of the famous Tsujihan not too far away from there and Google said it was unusually empty. I took my chance, left Oma and Opa at the cafe, and went to Tsujihan all by myself. When I got there there was already a line that didnā€™t look too bad, so I took my spot. In the end, that line became a 2-hour wait for me and I totally felt like it was a waste of my time! The food at Tsujihan was pretty good, but definitely not worth the wait. Actually I canā€™t think of any food that would be worth a 2-hour wait in line LOL.

After this we got together again and relaxed at a mall in Ginza. It was a bit drizzly outside. Then it was almost dinner time. Opa, DH, and I went to Gyukatsu Motomura in Coredo Motomachi (not too far and least queue). It didnā€™t taste as good as I had remembered it. Either my taste has changed or this branch is not so good, Iā€™m not sure.

After dinner, we still had energy so we decided to walk around some more. Ueno Park is famous for their Sakura Illumination, so thatā€™s where we went. It was pretty busy but not unbearable. We really enjoyed walking around the water lined with lit up sakura trees. Speaking of which, there were also sakura illumination near the Coredo Motomachi.

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!šŸ˜Š Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm...

World of Ghibli Exhibition Jakarta 2017

A few months back I received an email about World of Ghibli exhibition in Jakarta. My skeptical brain immediately thought, "Aah, how good could it be... I've visited the museum in Mitaka   and it's probably not going to be any better." Fast forward to August, a few of my Japan loving friends mentioned that rumours said that the displays are very good, made by Indonesians in cooperations with Ghibli representatives from Japan. In fact, so good that the Japanese company plans to take the displays and give them a home in Japan. Well hearing this from several different people definitely piqued my interest and I decided to check it out. It turned out that Miss Kiki and DH also wanted to go so I bought tickets from Traveloka  because they had a sale.  In the morning of our visit day, I asked Miss Kiki if she wanted to dress up as Kiki when she goes and she excitedly said yes. I made her a red bow headband with Cotton and Steel's Supreme Solid in Bandana  ...

Japan Trip June 2016 - Part 9 - Osaka

It was a super hot and bright morning and we were all packed and ready to ride the train to Osaka. We had no excuse to take a taxi so we walked to Kyoto Station... It was a rather short ride considering we moved cities, it was still around noon when we arrived at Osaka Station. The AirBnb property I had booked looked close to the station on the map, but it was further than expected. We were so sweaty by the time we got there, mostly because of our backpacks and our suitcases! I was very impressed Miss Kiki carried her backpack without complaints even though it was pretty stuffed by then. Taken from Osaka Station We had to change our wet and sticky clothes upon arrival, and after a bit of rest we decided to head out. First to Tenjimbashisuji Shopping Street listed on a tourist guide just over 1 km away. It was so hot and sunny I regretted not taking a hat for any of us. I was lucky I hadn't forgotten to bring my sunglasses. When we got there, we real...
