Dreamy Europe Trip Summer 2024 - Part 6 The Dolomites Italy

 


The Dolomites, known as the Italian Alps, is breathtaking no matter where you turn your heads. When I did my research on what to see and do there, I had a hard time choosing. In the end, I couldnā€™t decide until we were already there. 

We woke up to a beautiful view in front of our window, of the greeneries spread so vast and we watched the morning fog floating down the hill. We had breakfast in our little apartment and soon after we were ready to go explore the mountains (by car).


Our first stop that day was Lake Misurina or in Italian, Lago di Misurina. It was a nice, warm, and bright day. We parked the car and walked along the boardwalk on one side of the lake. The view was just amazing and the air was so fresh. At one of the grocery shops here, I found an Elderflower syrup (dā€™Arbo brand) and of course DH wanted it for his cocktails. We grabbed two bottles to take home (all the way to Indonesia). Then suddenly out of nowhere, the sky turned darkerā€¦ we rushed to the car and decided on a lunch spot.







Not too far from Lake Misurina, the diner we chose for lunch was called Malga Misurina. Itā€™s propped on one of the hills so if you sat on the patio then you get to look down to a beautiful view. We first got a table on the patio and more and more people arrived after we did. We ordered our food, took some pictures, enjoyed the sun that started peeking out again.








Just as our food arrived, it started drizzling. We grabbed what we could, and moved to a table inside their hut. Good thing we did, because it started pouring like there was no tomorrow, and the wind was blowing, and it was pretty scary! It was still pouring when we finished our meal, so we decided to order soup, dessert, and a warm drink. When we finished those as well, we still had to wait a little more until the heavy rain turned to normal rain and we decided to dash to the car. After paying, of course.





Originally, after visiting Lake Misurina we wanted to go higher and visit the iconic Three Picks, or Tre Cime in Italian. However considering the rain, potential ice, and the distance, I decided to play it safe and cancel the visit. We started driving back towards our accommodation and made a quick stop at Lake Durrensee on the way.

When we arrived at the apartment, it was still a bit misty. Despite the weather, Miss Kiki wanted to go out to pick some wild flowers. She wanted to try making a flower crown like she had in Canada many years ago. You can read about it here. The apartment field did not have enough flowers so we ventured across the street where sbe was able to gather more.




For dinner, we chose to go to Albergo Huber not too far away. 









We also went to Alpe Pragas, an artisan jam shop in the area. Google Maps had taken us round and round to get there, and didnā€™t get us there, but we figured it out in the end. DH said the shop looked like the Apple store of jams lol, and I can see why. We tasted a few things and Miss Kiki decided to buy a jar of jam. 








Just before heading back to the apartment, we decided to go visit Lago di Braies one more time. If our first visit was a bit disappointing for me, this visit really made up for it. This was the picture-perfect mirror-like Lake Braies I saw in other travel blogs if not better! It was around sunset when we were there. The sun casted a golden hue on the tip of the mountain. We were able to take some beautiful photos, where no one else was around. Miss Kiki even got to wear her new flower crown!

Japan Winter Holiday 2017 Part 7 - Otaru Sakaimachi

On our second day in Otaru after we had breakfast and ice cream , we continued walking to Sakaimachi. This shopping street is one of the busiest in the city and is where a lot of Otaru attraction is located. In front of one of the stores there, we saw this cute dog wearing a Minion outfit. Of course Miss Kiki jumped and squealed and asked if she could pet it. We asked permission from the owner to take a picture with it. Along the street they have rock statues in the shape of famous characters like Anpanman and Mickey Mouse. With Anpanman It was a very nice day, we were able to walk around and had fun without feeling cold even though there were a lot of ice and snow. Check out the platforms they set up on the hill. We think that it's to prevent snow slides... Most of the buildings there were old style,,,  Many shops sell fresh seafood and they would cook it for you by order. As we walked past a souvenir shop, we saw a poster for these snowball make...

Spring in Egypt Part 9 - Luxor Temple

At the time when we arrived at Luxor temple it was already after dusk and it became a little difficult to take photos. I compensated by setting my camera ISO to 4000 to make tripod-less picture-taking possible even though the grains became more visible. Just like the previous nights, the moon still looked round to me. I wasn't sure which one of those moons was the actual full moon. We walked around the temple first with Michael for explanations about the temple. In the distance we were able to hear the adzan calling the people for prayer. Situated in the east bank, the construction of the temple was started by Amenhotep III, continued and finished by the famous King Tut and Horemheb, and then added on to by Rameses II and finally by Alexander the Great. Unlike the other temples we had previously visited, this temple is not dedicated to a single cult/god. Instead, it is used as a place to rejuvenate kingship. May of the kings were said to have been coronated at this temple. ...
