Sometime at the early stage of my research for our Shanghai trip, I came across information and reviews of ERA Show Shanghai at TripAdvisor. It sounded really interesting but I was disappointed to find that the shows had been temporarily discontinued when I wanted to buy tickets. I monitored their website closely and finally at the end of November they re-opened in a new venue! I've tried to buy tickets on their website several times but it didn't work out but I managed to buy tickets from Viator and it was even cheaper!
The new venue wasn't marked in Google Maps yet but basically it was just a walking distance away from the original location. It was a very cold evening. As soon as we arrived at the venue I went to the ticket counter and showed them my booking to obtain our tickets. Based on reviews, I chose the second cheapest tickets and still got the first row seats but exactly on the side of the stage. That meant we watched the show sideways.... I think it would've been better to upgrade one more class. The area was not too big so the most expensive class would've been unnecessary.
The show itself was pretty good, though not as amazing as I had imagined it. I guess one could say it's old school Chinese circus with projected light backdrops. The tricks were nothing new, but this is coming from a person who grew up watching Chinese circuses live and on TV.... Miss Kiki on the other hand, was super impressed. She was on suspense the whole time and was clapping really hard for the ones that she really liked.
Was it worth going? Yes, I would think so. Chinese circus and acrobats are hands down excellent after all.
During intermission Miss Kiki noticed some people wearing this animal shaped hats with pumps on the sides that you can squeeze and it will lift up an ear. She really really wanted it and begged me to find it for her. Miss Kiki rarely asks for anything so even though it was cold out I agreed to go out and see if they had any for sale... At first we couldn't find it but then later on we found out that there was a lady selling those outside the gate. So we ran and got one for her and she thanked me for the rest of the evening :D I have to agree though that it was very cute!
On the way back to the hotel, TM and I made a detour to the Bund but most of the building lights were already off. See the pictures at the bottom of this post...
So here are the pictures below, I hope you enjoy them!
