May Long Weekend in Bali 2015 - Part 1

Just like our last trip to Bali, the May long weekend trip was also tied to a dance event. Mixing business with pleasure? Why not...

If you don't know yet, I own Dance Shoes Jakarta. We sell high quality imported dance shoes mainly from Europe and Argentina. On top of that, we also sell practice and party dance wear by Espen Salberg. On May long weekend this year, Luka Fanni and Joseph Carta hosted a dance camp called Bali Latino in Paradise, and I was honoured to be invited to sell my stock there.

We started our journey on Thursday. Luckily DH was able to take a day off that day and we just took Miss Kiki out of school. It was a morning flight with Air Asia. We got there on time, and enjoyed our usual free Starbucks food and beverage courtesy of BCA and ANZ credit cards :) After we proceeded to our gate, they announced that our flight had been delayed. Bah!

We arrived in Bali more than an hour late, and only when I was at the Bali airport did I receive an SMS notification that my flight had been delayed. The SMS info stated that it had been sent while I was already on the air. Nice try, Air Asia. How useless.

Our friends who now live in Bali had come to pick us up at the airport. It was very nice of them! Our first destination was lunch: Sate Babi Gelora Trisakti. The pork satay was small, but good, and for someone from Jakarta it is cheap!! Beware though, if you can't eat spicy stuff this is not for you...

When you eat satay, don't put the pointy end inside your mouth

We then continued to the famous gelato spot: Gusto Gelato. The five of us each had a small gelato with two flavour combination. It was a hustling and bustling cafe, and the gelato melted so fast! Lesson learned: do not give cones to your kids. Super messy! The gelato melted faster than Miss Kiki can eat and within minutes she was covered with sticky stuff. :D The verdict: pretty good! We should try other flavours next time.

From Gusto we were dropped off at our hotel. I decided to stay at the new Fairmont Sanur Bali for the first night. The best price I could find was a hotel voucher from TX Travel Ambassador. I really recommend them. You can find them at:

I was happily impressed by the Fairmont. Friendly staff, good service. We had the simple Garden View suite. It had a large bathroom with a bathtub, a separate shower, his and hers sink, and of course toilet. They had plenty of towels to use, pretty orchids everywhere, and L'occitane soap and shampoo. The bedroom had plenty of lights, an ipod dock to play music from your iphone or an audio jack for other phones. The bed faced a glass wall with sliding glass doors with wooden frames that will lead you out to a spacious balcony that fit another TV, a cabinet with cups, water glasses, and even wine glasses; and plenty of seating area. Very comfortable if you have friends or guests over. They have a motorized screen for the balcony to open or close as you wish. This acts as a sun screen as well as a mosquito net. We also really liked the breakfast they served. Very good selection and the servers are very attentive. We would definitely come back to stay there.

The Fairmont provides free valet service if you have a car, and they also have bicycles to borrow if you want to ride along the beach or around the area. They even have bikes with child seats on them! So we borrowed a couple of bikes and went to a nearby Italian restaurant recommended by my friend. Look how happy Miss Kiki was!

Bike ride!
Massimo Italian Restaurant is located very close to the Fairmont. It took us about 5 minutes or less on a bicycle to get there. Even though their prices are less than in Jakarta, they are still quite pricey. We had pizza that was really good, a swordfish dish that didn't impress, and a standard Spaghetti Bolognese that Miss Kiki wanted. We also ordered a cold cut and cheese appetizer that was good.

When we got back to the hotel, Miss Kiki and I took the opportunity to explore around. It was around sunset time but Sanur Beach is on the east coast.

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm...

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 3 - 3 Days 2 Nights Diving Trip With Chakana Liveaboard

Photo credit: Lukas Rissing @thestudypacker A live-aboard experience is one of the highlights of Labuan Bajo. It has been on my bucket list for a while but every time I tried to go, something just didn't work out.... until now! The opportunity arose to join an impressive-looking boat this year and the dates matched Miss Kiki's holiday perfectly, how could I not take this rare chance! With less than a month to prepare, we booked plane tickets, accommodations, and whatever equipment we thought we might need. So off we flew to Labuan Bajo with little preparation and a lot of faith. ;) You can read the first and second parts of the trip in my previous posts. After we checked out of our hotel on the third day, we went to the pier and hopped on to a dinghy that took us to Chakana Liveaboard, a 47-meter-long phinisi-style yacht that was going to be our accommodation for the next two nights. My heart raced as we approached the pretty boat and spotted a group of staff excitedly wavi...

World of Ghibli Exhibition Jakarta 2017

A few months back I received an email about World of Ghibli exhibition in Jakarta. My skeptical brain immediately thought, "Aah, how good could it be... I've visited the museum in Mitaka   and it's probably not going to be any better." Fast forward to August, a few of my Japan loving friends mentioned that rumours said that the displays are very good, made by Indonesians in cooperations with Ghibli representatives from Japan. In fact, so good that the Japanese company plans to take the displays and give them a home in Japan. Well hearing this from several different people definitely piqued my interest and I decided to check it out. It turned out that Miss Kiki and DH also wanted to go so I bought tickets from Traveloka  because they had a sale.  In the morning of our visit day, I asked Miss Kiki if she wanted to dress up as Kiki when she goes and she excitedly said yes. I made her a red bow headband with Cotton and Steel's Supreme Solid in Bandana  ...
