Eat, watch, cruise, and be merry! Those were the things we thought we should do for Opa's birthday, and those were the exact things we did!
After visiting the Seoul N Tower in the morning, we headed over to Myeongdong for lunch. We had a specific restaurant in mind, and that was another Korean BBQ but it was the one we knew was really good from our previous visit. This was the restaurant that sold the raspberry makgeolli we loved.
We didn't have an exact address or name, so I squeezed my brain really hard to find the way there. If you are interested in finding this restaurant, head towards this 7-Eleven and you will find the restaurant two stores next to it on the second floor. It was just past lunch time and we were fortunate to have arrived when a large group was leaving.
After lunch, Miss Kiki reminded me of my promise to buy her the tall ice cream. She said she was full, but she reeeeally wanted that towering swirls of an ice cream. It was one of the attraction of Myeongdong afterall. We quickly found a stall and I bought her one. She chose Strawberry Vanilla twist. At 2000 KRW per cone, I am absolutely sure that those were not real cream nor real flavours. But well, just once is okay...
Myeongdong that day was not as busy as it would've been on weekends, but there were still a lot of people walking around. I honestly went there only to eat at that particular BBQ restaurant. The shopping there was not that different from in Hongdae and in Ewha areas. Same brands, same styles. Maybe more street food but there's only so much one can eat at a time :D
The next item in our itinerary was a theatre performance called The Palace: Tales of Jang Noksu. We purchased tickets from Klook, and it was a limited time show. We took the metro and walked to Jeongdong Theatre, exchanged the tickets, and waited to enter the theatre. To our surprise, we got an upgrade to the best seats in the house! We bought the cheapest tickets available in Klook, and we were upgraded to the third row. The first and second rows weren't the best seats as they are positioned too low and too close to the stage. We were so happy, there were no one at all between us and the stage.
The show it self told a story of one of the famous consort in Korean History, mixing dance, music, and comedy. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance, they did really well with the show. Picture taking was not allowed except at the end. So here they are!
It was already our last evening in Seoul but we still had one restaurant we wanted to visit. We made our way back to Insadong and searched for this restaurant I kept the business card of. Lucky that I did, as they had renovated and looked totally different. The food was still good though, and less expensive than others in my opinion. I'm not sure why their google review isn't very good, but I highly recommend the thin sliced pork with spicy sauce bbq.
We finished our dinner later than we had expected, and from there we had to rush to Hangang Park where the Hangang Cruises dock. We under estimated the distance and ease to reach the dock from the metro station, my sister and I had to run ahead to the ticket counter to exchange our Klook vouchers with actual tickets. The path to the dock wasn't very clear nor was it well lit. We stumbled and jumbled, and got to the counter to find out that we still had to fill up forms for each passengers going on board. We were the last persons to arrive!
Long story short, the rest of us caught up just in time to board before the boat departed. We stayed on the top deck the whole time to look at the night lights, not knowing there was live music inside. Overall the cruise was rather anti-climactic, but it was still a nice end to a great vacation.
Thanks for reading my stories, I will be uploading our itinerary on the next post!
