The Hakone Open Air Museum has been on my want-to-go list since my very first visit to Japan. There we were, 5 years later on one rainy afternoon. We bought our tickets on site, and we got a small discount by showing our Fuji Hakone Passes.
As soon as we passed the ticket gate we took the escalator down and then went through a short tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel we found a vast open area with paths that lead through the museum. I would say the idea is similar to the Olympic Sculpture Park that we visited in Seattle this past summer. We were given a couple of maps to navigate and Miss Kiki took on the navigation job.
There are many different sculptures on display at the museum, but because it was raining I didn't want to use the Olympus too much and risk water damage.
In the children's area they have a playground made with nets. Miss Kiki tested it out a bit but there were rain water dripping in many places so we didn't stay long.
We continued to the main building area where they displayed works of Picasso, the famous Spanish artist. They had a variety of his works on display, with medias like paint, ceramic, fabric, and more. Unfortunately, photo-taking is not allowed in the Picasso exhibition so I don't have any pictures to show you.
We left Picasso Exhibition and continued down the path. We almost missed this tower that is covered in stained glass. I didn't go up. Miss Kiki tried going up but got scared because it was really tall and the stairs were narrow.
It was getting late so we left the museum to continue with our Hakone Route. Until next post!
