Summer in North America 2018 Part 10 - Dance, Food, and Friends

Ted Motyka Dance Studio has several parties throughout the year. The Garden Party is an annual dance party that is held every spring/summer. It so happens that the only Saturday we spent in Winnipeg was the day of said party. Of course, we had to attend. After all, parties at Ted Motyka Dance Studio were a big part of our life back then. Oh have I ever mentioned that I met DH at this dance studio?

Even Miss Kiki got a few dances...

She was also busy going back and forth between the adults...

And she got an internship job as a cashier...

A lot of the regulars attended, so it was a great chance for us to see people we knew...

Miss Kiki was very happy and she thoroughly enjoyed all the attention she received.

Close to midnight, she ran out of juice and became very quiet...

I squeezed in a few dances before we wrapped up and went home.

On the next day, we got up later than usual. We made a short shopping trip with MM to the new outlet mall.

From the outlet, MM dropped us off at Siam Thai Restaurant where we met up with our very good friends R&G. When we visited Winnipeg last time, G was pregnant with her second child and look at how big he is now!

There are many Thai Restaurants in Winnipeg and there is one reason that I go to Siam Thai. Dry Curry Fish. This one dish is so good and I haven't found one like it anywhere else! Their other dishes are just okay though.

After dinner we took a taxi to Kawaii Crepe and shared sweet crepes. When I first arrived in Winnipeg in 1999 there was only traditional style crepes sold. At that time I kept looking for the crepe style I was used to from Jakarta, the crunchy type that can be rolled into a flat cone. Many years later, the first Kawaii Crepe opened up in Osborne Village and it was better than what I used to have. Finally! Now they have a few locations in the city and this time we went to the one in Garden City area.

It was a nice evening of catching up with friends, meeting their new family member, and also enjoying nice food and good weather. We decided to walk back to the house that was about 2 km away.

On the Monday, we had brunch plans with our Sunday Brunch Bunch. This group of people are our friends we met through dancing, and in the last few years that we lived there we used to go out for brunch on Sundays. Breaking the norm, the Sunday Brunch Bunch met up on Monday this time. It was a smaller group, but we went to our favourite dim sum spot in Winnipeg: Kum Koon Garden.

We ate and ate and be merry...

I had forgotten how short I felt when I stand with these people, and there used to be more people just as tall as these guys in the group!

After dim sum we stopped at the Bulk Barn to get Maple candies... and Miss Kiki got herself a crystal lollipop.

We went back home and shortly after MM and I went to Polo Park to do some shopping. DH tagged along and got dropped off at a local brewery near Polo Park. At the Bay in Polo Park, we tried on several dresses and there was this very nice Calvin Klein dress that fit me so well MM said I had to have it and she bought it for me. <3

The grapefruit beer is a must-try

Miss Kiki who had stayed at home with gruncle Ted decided to tag along with him when he had to go to the studio to teach. There she met another girl and made a new friend. MM had to go to the studio that evening so she left me at Polo Park and then came back with Miss Kiki to pick me up.

When we arrived back home, we had a visit from our friend and his family. It was very nice of them to see us one more time before we left! We walked to a nearby park and tested out the Mavic Air again...

Then finally... it was time to leave our home away from home. It was great, and we look forward to their visit to Asia at the end of the year!

Stay tuned and follow our adventures in British Columbia!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm...

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 3 - 3 Days 2 Nights Diving Trip With Chakana Liveaboard

Photo credit: Lukas Rissing @thestudypacker A live-aboard experience is one of the highlights of Labuan Bajo. It has been on my bucket list for a while but every time I tried to go, something just didn't work out.... until now! The opportunity arose to join an impressive-looking boat this year and the dates matched Miss Kiki's holiday perfectly, how could I not take this rare chance! With less than a month to prepare, we booked plane tickets, accommodations, and whatever equipment we thought we might need. So off we flew to Labuan Bajo with little preparation and a lot of faith. ;) You can read the first and second parts of the trip in my previous posts. After we checked out of our hotel on the third day, we went to the pier and hopped on to a dinghy that took us to Chakana Liveaboard, a 47-meter-long phinisi-style yacht that was going to be our accommodation for the next two nights. My heart raced as we approached the pretty boat and spotted a group of staff excitedly wavi...

World of Ghibli Exhibition Jakarta 2017

A few months back I received an email about World of Ghibli exhibition in Jakarta. My skeptical brain immediately thought, "Aah, how good could it be... I've visited the museum in Mitaka   and it's probably not going to be any better." Fast forward to August, a few of my Japan loving friends mentioned that rumours said that the displays are very good, made by Indonesians in cooperations with Ghibli representatives from Japan. In fact, so good that the Japanese company plans to take the displays and give them a home in Japan. Well hearing this from several different people definitely piqued my interest and I decided to check it out. It turned out that Miss Kiki and DH also wanted to go so I bought tickets from Traveloka  because they had a sale.  In the morning of our visit day, I asked Miss Kiki if she wanted to dress up as Kiki when she goes and she excitedly said yes. I made her a red bow headband with Cotton and Steel's Supreme Solid in Bandana  ...
