It was finally New Year's Day! We waited for the countdown at Paulaner the previous night, so I allowed myself to sleep in. DH was off work so we decided to do a little bit of touring around the city. First stop was brunch at a French restaurant called Le Quartier. They have excellent food and pretty good atmosphere. It was the morning after new years eve and you can tell from our faces that we were almost too old for late nights... almost.... hehe... Here are some of the faces captured by Miss Kiki.
But then our beautiful food came...

After lunch we headed to Central Jakarta to see the Cathedral. Originally a residence of a General in the early 1800s, the building was renovated to be a Roman Catholic church in 1829. Since then, it had been renovated, collapsed, rebuilt, caught fire, and renovated again to the building we saw.
This was where DH and I had said our vows in 2007 and the Motykas were happy to be able to finally see it since they hadn't been able to make it to our wedding back then.

Right across from our cathedral, the Istiqlal National Mosque is located. We drove over and went to check it out. Our (Indonesians) tolerance for different religions is actually high, despite the extremists who fill the news lately.

From the mosque, we drove to the Old Town but the traffic jam was so bad, I let the group off while I drove around the Old Town Square. I was told the square was absolutely packed.
Before heading home, we stopped by Pecenongan Street to buy the famous Martabak. It was yummy as usual but I couldn't find a picture of it anywhere...
This is the end of this post, stay tuned for Part 4!
