People say that keys are one of the best toys for babies. They make noises, they see mom and dad using them all the time, and a lot of them are attached to a remote with buttons to press! I usually let my little Kiki-chan play with the car keys, despite that I think it's one of the most contaminated item in our household. She loves it, and we can always wash her hands after. Many times she locks and unlocks our car while we're in a restaurant, shopping, or just out somewhere. Never did I realize how handy that skill could be.... until today.
I was just about to pull out from a parking spot at a bubble tea place when I noticed a family of three, a dad, a toddler boy, and a 1.5 year old girl. They were getting into their car and since the girl still had to be 'packed in', the boy was left outside the car. When the dad went around to let the boy in the car, I saw a horrified look on his face. He had locked them out of the car, with the baby girl inside!
I stopped to see if he needed any help, and having locked his cellphone in with his keys, he wanted to borrow mine. So he made phone calls and getting really worried that his little girl might start crying in the car. 'Help' usually don't arrive right away, it can take up to a half hour. That would seem like forever when you have a little one in there! Well apparently my Kiki-chan was not the only baby who likes to press buttons on keys. As I saw her playing with the keys I excitedly pointed out to the poor dad that she might just unlock the car, which she did!
From now on, I will make sure that Kiki-chan gets a lot of 'practice' time with our keys!
