Weekend in Semarang 2018

Back in April I had purchased tickets to go to Semarang with my friends for a weekend in May. It was a holiday trip and I was going to squeeze a trip to see my grandma in Juwana, just 2 hours drive from Semarang. Unfortunately, not long after I purchased the tickets my grandma passed away. So in May we only went to Semarang.

On the Friday my dad drove me to get Kiki at school and drove us to the airport. It so happened that Mt. Merapi exploded that day and several airports got closed. The plane that we were supposed to take were coming from one of those airports and it was delayed by 3 hours or so... Luckily Miss Kiki was such a good sport and waited like a trooper.

That evening my aunt picked us up at the airport and we stayed with her at my cousin's house. The next day was my cousin's son's high school graduation day. We took pictures in the morning and gave him our best wishes.

Soon after, we went to have breakfast at the famous Soto place called Soto Bokoran. The soup tasted good but they put too much noodle for my liking. Kiki got her favourite clam satay, and she was impressed with the number of clams on the stick. A lot more compared to what she's used to in Jakarta!

After breakfast we went up to the highland area to Umbul Sidomukti and met up with my friends there. The place was nice and cool with beautiful view. It was also my aunt's first time there. Oh before I forget, most of the photos below, the nice looking ones are not mine. They are courtesy of Handy Lunardi, you can check out his other photos on instagram @handy_lunardi

Umbul Sidomukti is a large resort with restaurants and other attractions. We made our stop at Rumah Kopi at the resort and tried some of their food. The food was good. From there we walked around and went in a cave that was in their garden area and found a very nice photo spot at the other end of the cave.

Our next destination was the Brown Canyon, which wasn't really a canyon but a leftover mining site. It was super dusty and there were still trucks going back and forth. It looked pretty cool on pictures though....

From Brown Canyon we separated ways with my friends. My aunt, Miss Kiki, and I went to eat Sumatran style noodles at Sama Rasa. It was very good! Yum!

After lunch I tried coffee at the Blue Lotus Coffee House. It wasn't too bad, but not as good as what I could get in Jakarta.

Tired from that day's activity, we went home to my cousin's house. In front of their house there is a mango tree with a beehive. That hive had been there for a long time!

For dinner we went to Yang Kuang Puri, which was Miss Kiki's favourite in Semarang. She ate a LOT that evening!

We continued our adventures that day, after dinner my aunt took us to Semawis Night Market in Chinatown area. The street was so full of people and the whole strip sold food. It was very interesting to see but we didn't buy anything aside from a glass of orange juice. The juice was super sweet!

The next morning, we went for dim sum with my aunt and after that she went back home to Juwana. I joined my friends for the rest of the day until it was time to head home. We went to Eastman Coffee House for some coffee, drove around to pick up souvenirs, and went to Puri Maerokoco Recreational Park. The park had sites from different areas of Java with their traditional homes etc. It was super hot there and overly crowded, so we didn't stay long.

That was the end of our weekend, thanks for reading!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 3 - 3 Days 2 Nights Diving Trip With Chakana Liveaboard

Photo credit: Lukas Rissing @thestudypacker A live-aboard experience is one of the highlights of Labuan Bajo. It has been on my bucket list for a while but every time I tried to go, something just didn't work out.... until now! The opportunity arose to join an impressive-looking boat this year and the dates matched Miss Kiki's holiday perfectly, how could I not take this rare chance! With less than a month to prepare, we booked plane tickets, accommodations, and whatever equipment we thought we might need. So off we flew to Labuan Bajo with little preparation and a lot of faith. ;) You can read the first and second parts of the trip in my previous posts. After we checked out of our hotel on the third day, we went to the pier and hopped on to a dinghy that took us to Chakana Liveaboard, a 47-meter-long phinisi-style yacht that was going to be our accommodation for the next two nights. My heart raced as we approached the pretty boat and spotted a group of staff excitedly wavi

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 2 - Leisure Day Trip

I booked a leisure day trip for our second day in Labuan Bajo via Traveloka . When I say leisure, I meant a non-diving trip. We have a live onboard trip booked for the 3rd to the 5th day but that one is a diving trip covering different places and adventures so we tried to cram the other must-visits of Komodo National Park in one day. For breakfast that morning, we had breakfast boxes that the resort had prepared for us by order. The tour was operated by East Cruise Komodo and it was an open trip consisting of thirty-something people. East Cruise Komodo picked us up at Sudamala Resort where we stayed at 5:30 am and brought us to the harbour. The re-registration process at the harbour took about half an hour and after we were assigned a boat, we boarded. On the boat, our tour leader collected what was supposed to be the entrance fee for the National Komodo Park. It was IDR 150k per person for locals and IDR 300k per person for foreigners. We never saw the tickets but later on, we foun
