Whirlwind In A Mama's Head

Two days after Miss Kiki's birthday I had to work in Bandung. Since my mom and dad were both out of town, I asked my sister to take a day off and come with me to Bandung so I could take Miss Kiki with me. She bravely drove us to Bandung at night after she came home from work. We didn't take a lot of pictures but it was fun anyway. Thank God for sisters!!

I have been absent from this blog for about a couple of months, I know. My new web store took a lot of time and effort to set up and launch. Now this post is very important because Miss Kiki just turned 7!  In the last 4 years, Miss Kiki had celebrated her birthdays at school, Montessori style. Since she is now in Grade 1 in a non-Montessori school, I was curious to see how she would perceive the differences and what the kids do in the new school for their birthdays. To make it extra special, I asked her what she wanted to have for lunch that day. She decided (it was a very quick decision too) that she wanted sushi from Kaihomaru. Today Miss Kiki had a Science Fair at her school and the parents were invited to come and see their science presentation. Her class theme was the rainforest, and they learnt about plants like Orchids, Bromelia , Heliconia , and more. We have some Heliconias at home, so I cut a couple of stems to help the class decorate their room. The children and teachers had been working on this project for a while, and Miss Kiki was very excited about it. "Come as early as you can, Mom." She told me yesterday. The parents were invited from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. For whatever reason (I'm not really sure myself... sigh...), including traffic and lack of parking space, DH and I arrived 10 minutes late and missed her individual presentation. Miss Kiki was incredibly upset and I could see that she was holding back her tears when she saw me. Oh I just felt like the worst mother in the world!!! Fortunately one of the other moms there quickly realized that I wasn't there during Miss Kiki...

Very recently I made a post about Miss Kiki's new Pillowcase Dress with Michael Miller Fabric. I had bought extra because I knew I would want to make something else afterwards. In case you're wondering, I got the fabric from Click & Stitch . So after the success of the dress I decided to make a simple skirt for one of Miss Kiki's BFF's 4th birthday. I chose the simple skirt because the fabric design itself already gave a strong sense of elegance. There's a very good tutorial for a simple skirt over at MADE. So here's the end result!

There's a new online store I found for imported fabric in Indonesia called Click and Stitch . They carry a wide variety of collections by Michael Miller , Tiger Lily, Cotton & Steel , and more. If you like fabric, you should definitely check it out! My first purchase from them was this metallic confetti cotton from the Glitz collection by Michael Miller. I just couldn't wait to make something with it! Since I didn't feel like making a bodice, I opted for a simple pillowcase dress for Miss Kiki. It was very exciting! Miss Kiki is a petite 6 year old, but I made a regular size dress for a 6 year old so she can wear it a bit longer.  I started with cutting the fabric to 24"x 27" when folded in half. Before you start cutting, you need to decide which way the fabric design is going to face. For this dress, I cut it so that the confetti was at the bottom. So we had another playdate. I love these girls! Good friends really do make a huge difference in one's life. For this playdate, we had 4 girls (aka. the moms), 2 boys (aka. the dads), and 5 minions (aka. the kids). The moms brought toys (food ingredients and kitchen stuff), the dads brought toys (coffee equipments), and the kids..... well they can take care of themselves. :D It all started with an afternoon conversation in our Whatsapp group. I am sure a lot of moms everywhere have discussed this at one point. What healthy food can we pack for our kids that is easy to make?
