Glamping At Kancana Mandira Sukabumi West Java

There's a new glamping site in Sukabumi, just about 2.5 hours away by car from Jakarta. They are pet-friendly, so I decided to give them a try. So let's cover the ground area first. There are 4 different tents to choose from, 3 of which have shared bathrooms and are located by the kitchen area not too far from the entrance gate. The fourth tent is the Luxurious Tent which is located in a separate area, and it has an en suite bathroom and a jacuzzi with a view. The room rates include 3 meals per day and a snack for 2 people, but you can add an extra bed for extra people and that includes meals and snacks as well. There's also an extra charge for pets, for the cleaning fee.

So we booked the Luxurious Tent for 3 nights, arriving on a Sunday and leaving on Wednesday. We were charged weekday rates even though Wednesday was a public holiday so that was nice. The down payment is 50% of the total bill and the remaining balance was due prior to our stay.

On Sunday just before 9 am we packed our Honda Jazz with our luggage, the kid, and the dog, and drove out to Sukabumi. The toll trip took about 1 hour and the rest was non-toll roads that got narrower and narrower as we climbed up. This is one of the rare occasions where paddle shifts are actually useful. Google Maps will guide you through the shortest route, but it's best to ask the glamping admin for direction as the shortest route involves roads in very bad conditions. I do recommend taking a small car if possible, as even in the Jazz DH was sitting at the edge of his seat at some points. I also don't recommend driving if you are not a confident driver.

We arrived at Kancana Mandira's front gate and the security guard reconfirmed our booking. They don't take drop-in visitors so you won't be allowed to enter without a booking. We were directed to drive straight towards the kitchen and park there. The staff got busy as soon as we arrived. First, a pot of tea was served and we were asked to wait for our lunches because we arrived a little early. We took the opportunity to explore the area and took some pictures. It was a nice day with a blue sky and little clouds in the sky. In the distance, we were able to see Mt. Gede and Mt. Pangrango.

It didn't take too long before our lunches were brought out, it was 3 plates of rice with fried chicken with condiments. I have to say the food they served there was quite delicious, though after a 3-night stay we were a little tired of eating very similar food daily.

Just a little after noon, we were told that our tent was ready. So we packed ourselves back into the car and drove to the tent. It was downhill and then uphill and when we reached the car platform we were greeted with a stunning view of 3 mountains. The closest one on the left is Mt. Salak, and to the right in the distance are Mt. Gede and Mt. Pangrango we saw earlier. There was a staff that helped us carry our belongings to the tent, and one of them gave us a tour around the tent.

The Luxurious Tent has a 2x2 king-sized bed, a sofa bed (futon), a closet, a coffee table, side tables, umbrellas, and an emergency lamp that came in handy when we had a power outage! The bathroom is a proper structure with a toilet, shower, double sinks, and a jacuzzi. Unfortunately, the jacuzzi was just for show.... the hot water tank they used was only a 15L capacity. There's no way you can fill the tub with enough hot water to use it properly.

We settled in, put our stuff away, and started heading out. Even though they had a safe deposit box in the closet, it wasn't working at the time. Even the staff that came to look at it couldn't fix it. So we carried our valuables and locked them in the car instead. There's a mini waterfall within the glamping ground, so the three of us walked down and up the hill again to get there. At first, the climb up felt like it was unbearable.., but as we walked on it several times, it gets easier.

Soon after we got back to our tent, Miss Kiki started complaining that she was bored. It's true that there aren't many things to do there, but this city girl just needed some time to adjust. By the next day, she was already talking about how happy she was to be there, listening to the birds and the waterfall, and that she got to really relax and do nothing.

At around 3 pm a couple of staff arrived with fried cassava and fried bananas. I knew that my stomach and throat will complain about all the deep-fried food, but I decided to just enjoy it since I was on a holiday and made a self-note to eat extra healthy when we get back.

In the late afternoon, the weather changed very quickly. We saw the fog from the mountain coming closer and closer and when it reached our tent it started raining. And let me tell you, it was cold! It turned out that every time it rains there the temperature drops to the point where I had to put on socks, long pants, and a hoodie. Of course, the polar bear DH and the half polar bear Miss Kiki felt fine, but no, not me.

Later in the evening, our dinner was delivered to the tent. I thought it was nice that we could eat in private, though the food was already a bit cold by the time it reached us. The meal was similar to lunch with slight variations.

In the evening with the indoor lights on, we were able to see that the ceiling had stains. When it was daylight we thought that the stains were only on the outside but we then realized that the inside had stains too. I think the ceiling/roof should be cleaned more frequently. After dinner I got sleepy so I retired early, setting the alarm for 5:30 am to catch the sunrise. We were told that we would get a very nice sunrise view from our tent.

And here is the sunrise! It was a rather cloudy morning but still looked pretty, don't you think?

Our second day there was very laid back. It rained or drizzled almost all day and night, so we weren't able to do much other than squeeze in some walks here and there whenever the rain stopped. It was okay though, Miss Kiki was able to do online school from inside the tent and DH worked outside the tent on the balcony. The internet was okay, good enough for audio but with video on it became laggy. We had fried rice for breakfast and another rice dish for lunch. See the pattern here?

That evening they have us a complimentary firepit and corn for grilling. That was very nice of them! They brought the stuff over along with dinner, lit the fire up beside our tent, and left us to grill our own corn. So DH took the corn grilling job. I was very happy because it has been a while since I last had grilled corn. DH and Miss Kiki? They thought it was okay haha. They had some but I guess they didn't grow up with it.

It rained again that evening, so we were hoping to see a better sunrise sky the next day. It was a very cold night, but boy, the view we got the next morning was amazing!

The breakfast that morning was another Indonesian dish called Lontong Sayur. Miss Kiki and DH had another day of school and work, and I hung around with the dog and a book until lunchtime. More rice dish with deep-fried stuff and sides.

That afternoon, we had a huge thunderstorm that lasted almost all night. There was a little mishap with the internet too! It turned out that they turn the routers off during thunderstorms because of the lightning. That was quickly sorted out though, when we informed them that we need it for work, they turned it back on. In the evening we had a power outage, but they had a generator ready so we had partial electricity back on within 10 minutes. The power outage lasted a couple of hours, and then it was back to normal. We went to bed and woke up the next morning ready to go home. This time only Miss Kiki woke up early enough to catch the sunrise, but I felt a little regret that I didn't when I saw how clear the sky was when I got out. We could see so far into the distance, and the weather was a lot warmer than the day before. That morning, they didn't serve us breakfast at the usual time, but they brought us snacks instead. We had brunch at around 11 am (another rice dish) in the kitchen, and while waiting for check-out time and the meal we played around with the drone.

During our meal just before checking out, we chatted a bit with the friendly owner that happened to be there, and she generously gave us taro roots freshly plucked from her garden to take home. All in all, it was a good stay!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 3 - 3 Days 2 Nights Diving Trip With Chakana Liveaboard

Photo credit: Lukas Rissing @thestudypacker A live-aboard experience is one of the highlights of Labuan Bajo. It has been on my bucket list for a while but every time I tried to go, something just didn't work out.... until now! The opportunity arose to join an impressive-looking boat this year and the dates matched Miss Kiki's holiday perfectly, how could I not take this rare chance! With less than a month to prepare, we booked plane tickets, accommodations, and whatever equipment we thought we might need. So off we flew to Labuan Bajo with little preparation and a lot of faith. ;) You can read the first and second parts of the trip in my previous posts. After we checked out of our hotel on the third day, we went to the pier and hopped on to a dinghy that took us to Chakana Liveaboard, a 47-meter-long phinisi-style yacht that was going to be our accommodation for the next two nights. My heart raced as we approached the pretty boat and spotted a group of staff excitedly wavi

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 2 - Leisure Day Trip

I booked a leisure day trip for our second day in Labuan Bajo via Traveloka . When I say leisure, I meant a non-diving trip. We have a live onboard trip booked for the 3rd to the 5th day but that one is a diving trip covering different places and adventures so we tried to cram the other must-visits of Komodo National Park in one day. For breakfast that morning, we had breakfast boxes that the resort had prepared for us by order. The tour was operated by East Cruise Komodo and it was an open trip consisting of thirty-something people. East Cruise Komodo picked us up at Sudamala Resort where we stayed at 5:30 am and brought us to the harbour. The re-registration process at the harbour took about half an hour and after we were assigned a boat, we boarded. On the boat, our tour leader collected what was supposed to be the entrance fee for the National Komodo Park. It was IDR 150k per person for locals and IDR 300k per person for foreigners. We never saw the tickets but later on, we foun
