The American History had never really been attractive to me, especially if compared to the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean empire stories (yup, mostly from TV shows and mangas). That was why the USS Constitution wasn't originally on my To-Visit list. Having said that, we had time on our last day in Boston so we decided to give it a visit. We were on a walking mood that day so we went all the way to the famous battleship on foot. We spotted BLUEbikes along the way but decided against renting it and walked instead.
To get to the site we had to cross a tall bridge above the water. The pedestrian floor of the bridge was see-through and it was rather nerve-wrecking. From the bridge we were able to see the Bunker Hill Monument in the distance.
We found a good spot to view the ship from the side, but then we were exhausted from all that walking. Luckily, in the parking lot there was a drinking spot that sold craft beer. It was literally propped in the parking lot, but they had beanbags and a few benches with tables. We each got a plastic cup of beer, but we were able to try a lot of what they had on tap.
Having quenched our thirst and resting our backs and legs for a while, we were ready to enter the USS Constitution. Admission is free but you need to have your passport or some sort of valid ID with you.
Upon entry, we were immediately inside the souvenir store. Past the store was a small museum but was quite interesting.
After the museum we then exited the small building and walked towards the warship.
It was actually quite interesting to board the ship and look around. Not only did we see the deck, we were also allowed to go to the lower levels to see the hammocks, rooms, and weapons used. In the end, I was glad that we went to see the ship and would definitely recommend it to other people.
After we finished at the USS Constitution we walked back, crossed the bridge, and reached the Italian neighbourhood I was at a couple of days earlier.
There we went to Maria's Pastry Shop, claimed to be THE best Cannoli in Boston according to a few blogs I've read such as this one. It was super delicious and was definitely better than the one I had at Mike's Pastry in Harvard area.
We couldn't really decide what to have for early dinner so we walked to Quincy Market and shared a souvlaki on a pita from one of the stalls there.
Our time to go back home had finally arrived! Thank you for following our trip. Please stay tuned for our stop over in Qatar!
