As the oldest university in the United States of America, Harvard University is one that most people have heard of. With a long list of notable alumni (including several president of the USA), it wouldn't be exaggeration to say that it is one of the top universities in the world. That being said, my ignorant self had never known that it this famous university is so close to Boston, Massachusetts until I started planning for my Boston trip.
From the apartment that we rented in Boston Seaport area I took the metro from Broadway station to Harvard station in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was a pretty straightforward ride, following the directions from Googlemaps.
As soon as I emerged from the station I saw Harvard Square and started walking towards it. The area seemed to have more visitors than students, but then again it was summer. It took me a long time to explore the area outside campus and didn't even have the energy to cover all of the campus grounds. It was massive!
I started my exploration from Harvard Square, walking in and out any stores that looked interesting.
Just as I started running out of energy I spotted Mike's Pastry, supposedly famous for their cannolis. In Boston Italian's quarter Mike's Pastry's cannoli is one of the four famous ones but we'll talk more about that on a different post. I did stop by for an original cannoli at Harvard area and it was pretty good!
It doesn't really show in the picture but this thing was huge! |
I continued walking and I finally looped around and found the exterior walls of Harvard campus.
And so I entered!

As I mentioned above, Harvard University grounds is extremely large. There are several museums that you can visit on campus, and there are free walking tours provided. I decided to roam around on my own. I took a lot of pictures, some of which you can see below.
