For the third day I booked us for a short Lava Tour, a trip to the Merapi Volcano. Miss Kiki has been fascinated with volcanoes and volcano facts from her book, so I thought it would be appropriate to take her to a volcano and see one for real.
I booked the Lava tour with Mentari Adventure owned by Pak Eko. He can be reached via text, phone, or WhatsApp at +6281229915857
I arranged pick-up and drop-off with the same company to get to the volcano from our hotel. His prices are very reasonable. On the day of our tour, all of his cars and drivers are out so we were lucky to be picked up by Pak Eko himself in a brand spanking new Toyota Avanza. He was on time, polite, clean, and (I know it is important for some of us) smelled pleasant. Hahahhaa..... You wouldn't want to sit in a car for a long trip with a smelly driver, would you. When we arrived at the Merapi Museum, our Jeep was all ready to go. We hopped on and off we went. Oh what fun it was to ride in a Jeep up and down the path of solidified lava!

On the Jeep and ready to go |

Now we're really ready to go. The Museum is in the background. |
|
Skeletons of cows found after eruption |
|
Bycicle Skeleton |
|
Household items ruined by the volcanic gas |
|
'Alien Rock' shaped like a head from one of the eruptions |
|
Excavating solidified lava |
|
Bunker to hide from volcanic gas, but in 2006 two people died in it because lava went in. |
This tour made me feel really small. How massive the volcano was and how destructive the eruption could be.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by at
jeJamuran Restaurant for lunch. This restaurant came highly recommended by several of my friends and it has a very high rating at
Foursquare. Not a mushroom fan myself, I was actually quite impressed with their food. Most of the dishes are mushroom based. Mushroom satay, mushroom rendang, mushroom soup, mushroom omelette, and the list goes on. All of the dishes I ordered tasted very good. The restaurant setting was also quite nice, clean, and they have a mushroom display in the mid section.
And somewhere in Yogyakarta....
In the evening we took it easy and went for dinner at
Nanamia Pizzeria. It was a nice place but the food took a long time. We had Minestrone soup, garlic bread, Penne Carbonara, Lasagna, and Giovanni Pizza. I would say other than the garlic bread, the food was very good. The lasagna was the best I've had in Indonesia.
