A Month In North America Part 1 - British Columbia Day 1, 2, and 3

Our long awaited month long holiday had came and gone. It was a great month with friends, family, and fresh air...

We started our journey a few days into September by Cathay Pacific, following the Jakarta - Hong Kong - Vancouver route. It had been more than 10 years since I last flew with them, since EVA Air's Deluxe class had been a better option for us. This time, however, Cathay had a really good deal so we decided to give them a try. The Cathay cabin is now more spacious compared to back then so the long haul flight was not too bad. One thing that I've learnt from flying back and forth all this time is that a proper pillow makes a HUGE difference! So I was determined to bring a child-size pillow and bolster with us. You can see the bolster on my lap in the photo below.

Five hours later, we arrived in HK for a 4-hour transit. The HK airport was not too bad, about the same as other airports but not as nice as Singapore's Changi. They have kid's area with TV and some building blocks, and a LOT of chairs to sit on. We took a seat and started munching on the snakeskin fruit my mom peeled and packed for us (Thanks Mom!). Now that I think about it, it was a good move because it would delay having to go for number 2 on the plane. lol.

We were also excited to see a Bruce Lee display near our gate, promoting an event in HK at the time.

Then we heard news that our flight was going to be delayed for half an hour. And then after that they announced a one-hour delay. It was not too big of a deal for us, and we were told later on that the plane was flying in from Calgary and there had been a huge delay for all planes leaving from Calgary because they had had snow! At the beginning of September!

For a big chunk of the 12-hour flight, Miss Kiki was sleeping safe and sound, thanks to the pillow I brought. And for the time when she was up, she watched the in-flight personal TV quietly. I have to admit... it is very easy to travel with her. She is a true jet-setter!

We arrived in Richmond in the evening and my brother-in-law came to pick us up. We will be staying at my sister's condo for the next few days. Here's a selfie of us!

Selfie time!
That night, Miss Kiki had trouble sleeping because she had slept on the plane. So she did her homework instead, while I and DH try to sleep and fight the jetlag. We were jet lagged for the next 2 or 3 days...

Day 2

We set out for a Dim Sum Brunch with my sister and her daughter. If I'm not mistaken, the restaurant was called South Ocean  Continental, and supposedly it was one of the very few Dim Sum restaurants in Richmond that still pushed their food on carts so you could see and choose.

After brunch we set out to a mall where Best Buy was to get a SIM card for DH. At $50 for a month, this is the most expensive plan we've encountered while travelling! We are so used to paying less than $10 a month for calls, texts, and data that this feels so wrong!

From the mall we went home. We got there around the same time as BIL did. Then the guys and the kids went out to play.

For dinner, we went to a nearby Hotpot and BBQ restaurant.

Day 3

This time, we went out to a HK Style Cafe called Silver Tower for brunch. DH and I each had a baked rice dish.

We then went to the Steveston area, starting at the community centre playground and worked our way towards the waterfront. The playground was quite large, with a big variety of play thing. Miss Kiki was afraid to go on a lot of them but she was willing to try...

Please hold me, Papa...

Not so sure about this....

I have a smaller version of this at school!

So hot...

Smile!

What is this thing?

I'm trying....

Peek a boo!

There you are!

At Steveston Waterfront

DH went to meet up with his friend in Downtown Vancouver that evening, they tried out a brewery that turned out to be a bit weird, according to them. Meanwhile, BIL met up with us girls at a mall parking lot, and since the kids were sleeping, we left him in the car with them so we could go shopping. :D

For dinner we had Taiwanese food at the mall and it was good.

Stay Tuned for  Continue to Part 2!

Nintendo Switch Sleeve Tutorial

Hi! I'm Kirana from woofkiki.blogspot.co.id . I am going to write an introduction for this blog post. We bought a Nintendo Switch in Japan.  I really liked it and played with it almost everyday. If you're wondering what a Nintendo Switch is, it is a video game where you can basically  "switch" everything. The joy-cons and even the game! You can also connect it to your TV. It would be nice to bring it around with you, but when you put it in your bag... Oh no! The screen scratched! So, this is a sleeve that will fix that. Let's get started!😊 Kirana Now the tutorial (by Kirana's mom)... 1. Make your pattern according to the picture below. It is basically a 6"x24" rectangle with a semi circle at one end. Note: this is not a printable pattern 1. Cut your outer fabric, lining, and batting(optional). In this tutorial, I used minky for lining and a pre-quilted fabric for the cover, so I didn't need extra batting. For batting, I recomm

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 3 - 3 Days 2 Nights Diving Trip With Chakana Liveaboard

Photo credit: Lukas Rissing @thestudypacker A live-aboard experience is one of the highlights of Labuan Bajo. It has been on my bucket list for a while but every time I tried to go, something just didn't work out.... until now! The opportunity arose to join an impressive-looking boat this year and the dates matched Miss Kiki's holiday perfectly, how could I not take this rare chance! With less than a month to prepare, we booked plane tickets, accommodations, and whatever equipment we thought we might need. So off we flew to Labuan Bajo with little preparation and a lot of faith. ;) You can read the first and second parts of the trip in my previous posts. After we checked out of our hotel on the third day, we went to the pier and hopped on to a dinghy that took us to Chakana Liveaboard, a 47-meter-long phinisi-style yacht that was going to be our accommodation for the next two nights. My heart raced as we approached the pretty boat and spotted a group of staff excitedly wavi

Labuan Bajo 2023 Part 2 - Leisure Day Trip

I booked a leisure day trip for our second day in Labuan Bajo via Traveloka . When I say leisure, I meant a non-diving trip. We have a live onboard trip booked for the 3rd to the 5th day but that one is a diving trip covering different places and adventures so we tried to cram the other must-visits of Komodo National Park in one day. For breakfast that morning, we had breakfast boxes that the resort had prepared for us by order. The tour was operated by East Cruise Komodo and it was an open trip consisting of thirty-something people. East Cruise Komodo picked us up at Sudamala Resort where we stayed at 5:30 am and brought us to the harbour. The re-registration process at the harbour took about half an hour and after we were assigned a boat, we boarded. On the boat, our tour leader collected what was supposed to be the entrance fee for the National Komodo Park. It was IDR 150k per person for locals and IDR 300k per person for foreigners. We never saw the tickets but later on, we foun
